X61 Tablet

The X61 Tablet is our special convertible tablet. The tablet allows you to actually handwrite notes on the screen using a stylus, and then organize your notes or convert them to typed text using the included handwriting recognition software. Faculty members will also find it useful for annotating PowerPoint presentations on the fly in the classroom; you can draw on the tablet while projecting on a classroom screen! This computer is smaller and lighter than a traditional laptop because it includes an external CD/DVD drive. As with all G2GMobile@VCU computers, the X61 comes pre-installed with full versions (not "Preview" or "Limited" versions) of software to get you ready to go at VCU right away, including:

Microsoft Windows Vista Business or XP Pro (your choice)
Sophos Antivirus
(VCU licensed edition)
Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Professional (PDF-making software)
Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 (photo editing software)
Adobe Premiere Elements 3
(video editing software)
vitalsource KEY
(personal library, including downloadable classic works)
Microsoft OneNote (Organization software for note taking in class)
Mozilla Firefox
(Browser alternative to Microsoft Internet Explorer)

Plus, all computers include the option of accidental damage protection with ThinkPad Protection for a small additional fee.

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz Display 12.1" TFT XGA TouchScreen
RAM 2 GB Video Card Intel Integrated 950 GM (see Note)
Operating System Windows Vista Business or XP Pro Optical Drive External USB CD/DVD R/W
Hard Drive 120 GB 5400rpm w/ turbo card (?)Intel Turbo Memory caches large amounts of frequently used data for faster access by the processor and accelerates data transfer both to and from the processor. This decreases the need for hard-disk accesses, saving both time and power, which equates to increased performance and energy efficiency. That's good news for users who run data-intensive software like media applications. & Active Protection System (?)The Active Protection System features an integrated motion sensor that continuously monitors your notebook, providing up to four times greater impact protection than systems without this feature. Using technology similar to that which controls automobile airbags, the system can detect sudden changes in motion and temporarily stop the hard drive to help protect data from some crashes which may occur in everyday notebook accidents. It also can automatically adjust sensitivity levels when repetitive motion is detected. Security Chip Embedded "LoJack" system (?)Computrace LoJack for Laptops by Absolute Software is a computer tracking and loss control software service. It can help authorities to determine the location of a lost or stolen when the system is reconnected to the Internet. When the software is properly installed and working on your computer, the Absolute Software Monitoring Center acts as a sentinel, keeping track of Computrace-equipped PCs. Absolute Software's Web-based reports give you unlimited access to your PC asset data, 24 hours a day. (activation subscription required)

And if you add the ThinkPad Protection, any time you need any kind of repair to the laptop--even if you drop your laptop or run over it with your car--for 4 years, we will fix it right here at VCU or you can take it to any Lenovo warranty center, anywhere in the world, for service at no additional cost!

Link to Lenovo WebsiteHow do you get one? Just follow this link to the Lenovo VCU site. You purchase the computer from Lenovo, and they will ship it directly to you. Someone will need to be there to sign for it, so you may want to consider shipping it to a work address if appropriate.

You say you don't want to buy online? No problem! You can call 1-877-222-6426 and speak to a Lenovo representative and order it over the phone.

Please note that we don't have these computers for sale at VCU. So you cannot purchase them with payroll deduction. You must buy them from Lenovo, either online or over the phone at 1-877-222-6426. We often have some demonstration models in our Service Center that you can look at, but you still must purchase your laptop directly from Lenovo.

* Comparing prices? Don't be fooled. This is your FINAL price. Most computer manufacturers advertise a low price on a stripped down model, and then you must add features (and cost) in order to get a computer that will work for you. If you are comparing prices, make sure you configure your computer to match this one, and THEN decide where the bargain is!

* Prices subject to change.
