This computer meets or exceeds VCU's minimum computer specifications. We've also included a version of this computer packaged with all the accessories most students will need to be successful at VCU. These are the same accessories we include in our Accessory Pack for the Windows/ThinkPad laptops. That package is located on the same Apple web site as the computer--look for it just underneath the base model on the web page.
What's the catch? There is none. That's your final price. You just pay sales tax. Everything you need is included--power supply, battery, extended warranty, everything! And if you ever need any kind of covered repair to the laptop, we will fix it right here at VCU or you can take it to any Apple service center, anywhere in the world, for service. Please note that unlike the Lenovo G2G laptops, these computers do not include accidental damage protection or Microsoft Office software.
How do you get one? Just follow this link to the Apple VCU site. You purchase the computer from Apple, and they will ship it directly to you. We don't recommend shipping it to a residence hall room. And someone will need to be there to sign for it, so you may want to consider shipping it to a parent's work address if appropriate.
Can your aunt (uncle, grandparent, cousin, mother's best friend) buy one? Certainly, if they're buying it for a student at VCU. They will be asked to enter the student's name in the order form so we can track it and provide the on-site service to you once you get here, but they don't need any special voodoo codes to purchase a computer for you. Simply click on the link to Apple's website and order it online.
You say your grandma is afraid to buy online? No problem! She can call 1-800-MY-APPLE (692-7753) and speak to a Apple representative and order it over the phone. She just needs to tell them that you'll be a VCU student.
Please note that we don't have these computers for sale at VCU. You must buy them from Apple, either online or over the phone at1-800-MY-APPLE (692-7753). We will have demonstration models available at orientation for you to look at, but you still must purchase your laptop directly from Apple.
* Comparing prices? Don't be fooled. This is your FINAL price. Most computer manufacturers advertise a low price on a stripped down model, and then you must add features (and cost) in order to get a computer that will work for you. These computers come pre-customized with the specs we think most students will want and need for their college career. You may also customize them--add RAM (for an additional cost) or get a smaller hard drive (to save some money)--and still get the VCU discount.
