What does the G2GMobile@VCU warranty cover?

VCU's G2GMobile laptop computers start with the standard 3-year parts and labor warranty that covers defects to your computer.

Then we add another year to this warranty to insure your computer works for you throughout a standard 4-year college career.

Then we add 4-year accidental damage coverage that protects your computer from damage due to accidents that we all know college students have.  It will even cover those things parents are afraid students will do on a regular basis:

  • Drive off with your computer sitting on the top of your car? It's covered!
  • Roommate plops down on the laptop sitting on your bed? It's covered!
  • Knock your computer off the table in the library? It's covered!
  • Laptop falls out of your bike messenger bag? It's covered!

So what's not covered? Fire and theft. When VCU negotiated prices for these computers, we wanted to give you the best value we could, and adding these two things to the 4-year policy added significantly to the cost. Since this coverage is fairly easy for you to add to your homeowner's or renter's insurance (simply call up your agent and ask to add a rider to your policy), we decided it would probably be more cost effective for you to add this yourself.

G2GMobile@VCU computers are also equipped with an optional Computrace LoJack system already installed.  In order to take advantage of this system, you must purchase a subscription package at the time of purchase, which covers 4 years of computer monitoring for less than $30 per year.  If your laptop is stolen and the theft is reported to police, the LoJack system can trace the laptop and, in many instances, recover it, when the laptop is subsequently connected to the Internet.  For more information, see the details on the Computrace LoJack website.

Also, the standard life of a laptop battery is 1-2 years, and (as with ALL computer manufacturers), the battery warranty is just one year. All batteries experience a life cycle degradation and hold less charge as they age. You will probably find you will need to replace the battery within 2 years. We will have discounted batteries available for students to purchase.

We've done our best to make these laptop computers as worry-free for parents as we possibly could.

But wait, there's more! This entire warranty is valid even if you're no longer attending VCU. Simply visit Lenovo's service provider web site to find a Warrantly Serivce Provider close to you or find out how to obtain warranty service by mail.

This warranty is also fully transferable, so if you find you need a different computer, you can sell your computer to another VCU student (or anyone, really), and that person will be able to use the warranty for the rest of the 4 years.

VCU's G2GMobile on-campus warranty service center will provide all warranty service while students are on campus. Your local Lenovo service provider can provide service during breaks if you live a distance away from VCU.
